We know everything (mostly) except for price and HP. Some of you don't like the looks, some of you do. So how much performance would you need to counteract your other opinions? What's the HP and price level you to would accept in a 2015 Miata?

Also, assume the ~2200lbs weight that Jalopnik seems to think is going to happen.

For me, to want it, is at 200HP and $25,000. A lighter, 2 seater, roadster version of the BRZ, basically. Don't care if turbocharged or not, and torque should be around 150 ft/lbs or so.

For me, it would need to be a 2.0 Turbo, 6 speed manual, mid-engined and with a toyota badge. at $30k. (and a Yamaha logo on cam gear cover)

Over 9000 HP, under $9000.

I really like the look, so my threshold might be a little bit more lenient...or less. Or both. Hell, I dunno!

180hp, similar torque. I'd like to see it start at around $23k, even $24k. $25k is a little much for me to stomach for a base model.

I'm dreading the AUD price. Current one is around ~$50k.

Hopefully they actually try to compete against the BRZ/FT86 and trim $15k off the price.

That's pretty much it. If it stayed around 2,200 ish lbs like it seems to be projected to be, and had 200 HP or so, then it would be great as long as it stays under $30,000. I don't see it staying under $30,000 since the outgoing Miata can be had well over $30,000 with the right configuration. If I can get one with a stick, 200 HP, and a cloth top under $27,000 I'd be a happy camper.

250HP would make me consider it.

Given the ~2,200 lb weight, I'd want one at $22-$26k with 180-210 HP and 180-200 lb-ft of torque from a turbocharged motor.

price= $15000 + $100(hp-120)

And kinda surprised by the responses. 150 hp at the wheels would bring this thing up to 60 in less than 7ish seconds, which would be pretty quick for something really cheap. That seems way more miata-like to me than something with 250hp and costing 30k.

That's pretty steep, but I agree with this formula a lot.

My threshold is 10lbs/hp. I love light cars, but when you subtract more power than weight it doesn't cut it...there are too many 300+ horsepower cars available.

225hp in a 2200 pound car would make for a fun car you wouldn't regret every time you tried to accelerate in gear, and a turbo 2.3 in the 300hp range for the Mazdaspeed would be a blast.
